Barbara Obray is an proficient lifelong musician, pianist, and composer.
Barbara Boyer Obray began her music studies at age 8 in Riverside, CA. She pursued a degree in music theory at BYU from 1944 until diverted into family and church duties by marriage to Bryce W. Obray in 1951. The Obrays raised six children, faithfully active and involved in the Church as a family. Barbara has always happily shared her musical talents with the Church, serving as pianist, organist, music and choir director, road show committee, camp music director, and many other callings. In 1991, after her children were grown, Barbara graduated from Arizona State University with a B.A. in Fine Arts to complete her music degree.
Barbara Obray’s significant contributions over the years have enriched music both within the Church and the community at large wherever she has been, both in the Valley of the Sun and while serving in Canada and in France. Barbara Obray is also a seasoned performer, regularly offering piano concerts and professional appearances for many years in a group known as “The Singing Strings.”
Now, at age 82, Barbara is busier than ever. She continues to be actively involved in music for her ward in Sun Lakes, AZ; presents concerts and sing-along programs at local apartment complexes and senior living centers, writes and publishes her own music, and researches family history.
