I cheated my way through piano lessons. Being able to play by ear, I'd make my sisters play the weekly assignment, watch them, and then figure the rest out by sound.
I was never crazy about hymns. I always thought they were bang-y and not the most harmonious sounding. Then my freshman year in college I saw someone play their arrangement of a hymn and it sounded amazing! I stood there and watched him play and thought to myself, that can't be that hard.
It actually was harder than I thought. It took me three months to come up with and be able to play my version of I Am a Child of God. I started playing it in church and got positive feedback. I came up with the next arrangement while in the MTC. When I got back from my mission to Chile, I released the first two songs. The goal then became to do a full-length album. 10 years and 10 songs later...here it is.
Currently, Alex produces award-winning movies, music videos and even boring corporate videos. He had a movie at Sundance 2010, and just finished producing and directing a music video for Varsity Fanclub.
